Finally Licensed
I wrote back in May about attending Sea School down in Bayou La Batre to get my Coast Guard Captain’s License. It turns out that passing the tests is the easiest part of the process. In June I had finally collected everything necessary to actually apply. These included my passport, an original social security card, drug test results, physical exam results, three personal reference letters, etc., etc., etc. To apply for the license, I had to drive up to Memphis and appear in person with all of these items, be fingerprinted, and take an oath. I got it all done and was told that it would take 10 to 12 weeks to receive the license. Why it should take three months to issue it is inexplicable with everything turned in and in order.
It turns out that it actually took five months but this week I finally received the license. From now on, I can really be called Captain John.
